56th IMO (International Math Olympiad) has come to a conclusion. USA team has won No. 1, China be No. 2.
IMO 2015 took place at Chiangmai, Thailand from 4 to 16 July 2015. The 581 Contestants from 114 countries and areas has competed in IMO 2015.
Here are the results for standings of winning teams:
The teams that stand in the position of number 1 to number 5 are:
USA (1), China (2), Korea (3), PRK (Korea, PR: 4), Vietnam (5);
The teams that stand in the position of number 6 to number 10 are:
Austrilia (6), Iran (7), Russia (8), Canada (9), Singapore (10).
The teams that stand in the position of number 11 to number 15 are:
Ukraine, Thailand, Romania, France, and Crotia.
The teams that stand in the position of number 16 to number 20 are:
Peru, Poland, Taiwan, Mexico, Hungary and Turkey (they tied for 20th).
The teams that stand in the position of number 22 to number 25 are:
United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Kazakhstan.

In the results, we find two trends. The first trend continues from past years, that the IMO results for the emerging economies (developing countries) are advancing rapidly: among them are Thailand, Peru, Mexico. The second trend is the returning to outstanding results for some European countries that are traditionally strong in mathematics and math education (e.g. Ukraine, Romania, France, followed by Poland and Hungary).
